Agadir is a Morocco's favorite resort town, located on its southern coast. Almost entirely rebuilt after an earthquake in 1960s, it offers a relaxed and easygoing vibe. As well as enjoying its beaches and shopping centers, you can head out to the nearby Souss Massa National Park and Sidi Ifni or to Paradise Valley and Essaouira. For easy access to the rural region around Agadir, rent a cheap car from Al Massira (AGA) airport or downtown Agadir. The A7 expressway way now conveniently connects Agadir to Marrakesh and Casablanca.

Agadir's history goes back to the Portuguese rule of Morocco, but there is little left of those times. Agadir's Kasbah, the only remnant from its rich history, offers a great view of the bay and city from the north. Walk from the city's new marina on the seaside promenade towards the city's beaches, enjoying the city's mild weather. The beach at Taghazout is very popular, as well as the surfing spots for the more experienced of Anchor Point, Hash Point and Killer Point.

The Souss Massa National Park is the largest nature reserve in the country and especially well-suited for exploration with a cheap rental car since it has no public transportation. Between the two estuaries of Oued Souss and Oued Massa, you can see the endangered Bald Ibis and Marbled Duck that nest there. Driving further south along the coast you will reach Sidi Ifni, a former Spanish colonial town whose scenic Legzira Beach is worth looking out for. Head back to Agadir via Tiznit, a center of silver trade, and Tafraout, a Berber town located in a valley of red granite rocks that offers many trekking, rock climbing and mountain biking opportunities.  

Alternately you can go northwards to Essaouira (also known as Mogador) within a three hour drive in a cheap car hire from Agadir. Its massive stone ramparts, constructed by the Portuguese are a UNESCO heritage site. At its windy beaches you can learn how to kitesurf, or shop in its Medina for handicrafts. Essaouira is also well known for its art scene, as displayed in its various art galleries. You can take a detour on your way into Paradise Valley, a nature reserve where you can bathe in the pools and waterfalls of the Ankrim River.

Take a road trip into the Atlas Mountains by heading east to Taroudant, a market town called "Little Marrakesh". This walled town is a good base for excursions into the High Atlas region, towards Tiout's oasis and Kasbah, or to enjoy the breath taking views from the Tizi n’Test Pass on the old road to Marrakesh, and during the autumn attend the Saffron Festival in Taliouine.
